The osteopath promotes functional ease and healing. If you are suffering from back tensions, head, neck, shoulder or foot pain, fatigue, dizziness, jaw problems, transit or digesting difficulties, postural problems, discomfort linked to pregnancy, breathing issues, recovering from falls or from surgery, athletic/workplace injuries, intensely training for high level competition, or wanting to prevent injury…osteopathy can help.
Osteopathy is complementary to traditional medicine and other healing therapies.
The first consultation starts off with a in-depth questionnaire including queries regarding past accidents or traumas—even if they might seem unrelated to the current problem.
You will be asked to remove outer clothing so that the osteopath can more accurately evaluate the movement of your spine, shoulders, thorax, etc. You will be asked to do some simple movements so that your posture and mobility of various body parts can be evaluated.
Follow-up consultations consist of an evaluation and osteopathic treatment that
lasts 60 minutes.
It is best to rest and avoid intense physical activity for 24 – 48 hours after an osteopathic treatment.
Sometimes patients report an increase in symptoms for one to two days, this is considered normal and is generally followed by a significant and continued improvement. The body can take up to two weeks to fully integrate the benefits of the osteopathic treatment received.
Generally, after an initial consultation, a follow-up visit is highly advisable. If a problem, pain or issue has been present for an extended period of time, more than one visit might be recommended. The effects of osteopathy treatments are long-lasting and cumulative.
However, every situation, individual and problem is unique and different. An evaluation and reassessment will be performed at each visit and a treatment plan will be developed to meet your specific needs.
